Revision Objectives

• Recognise the letters "W" and "w" and say the sound /w/
• Recall the words well, wheat, watermelon and wheel
• Say the chant and the rhyme line "w / w / wheel rolls round"
• Trace "W" and "w" with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Roll the Wheel

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and roll a toy wheel or round lid from learner to learner
• When a learner stops it, they say "wheel" and the sound /w/
• Keep going until everyone has had a turn

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 25 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: well, wheat, watermelon, wheel
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Chant Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Say the chant from the letter box, clapping on each "w":
  • "w / w / well"
  • "w / w / wheat"
  • "w / w / watermelon"
• Learners repeat in a loud voice, then a whisper
• Let two volunteers say it on their own

Revision Activity 4: Wheel Rolls Round

Time: 5 minutes

• Learners stand and roll their hands round and round
• Say "w / w / wheel rolls round" together, slowly and then fast
• On the last "round" everyone turns round once on the spot

Revision Activity 5: Air, Board and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "W" in the air together: down, up, down, up
• Let learners trace "W" with a finger on the board
• Trace one dotted row of "w" on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that every learner starts at the top

Revision Activity 6: Find the w

Time: 2 minutes

• Write w, v and m large on the board
• Ask: "Which one is w?" Learners point and say /w/
