Revision Objectives

• Recognise big U and small u and say the sound /u/ as in umbrella
• Recall the words unicorn, uniform, urn and umbrella
• Say the chant and the rhyme line "u / u / umbrella saves you from the weather"
• Trace big U and small u with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Umbrella Pass

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and pass a closed umbrella around
• When a learner holds it, they say "u / u / umbrella"
• Ask: "What does an umbrella save you from?" and let the learner answer
• Keep going until everyone has had a turn

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 23 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: unicorn, uniform, urn, umbrella
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Chant Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Say the chant with a clap on each "u": "u / u / unicorn", "u / u / uniform", "u / u / urn"
• Learners repeat in a whisper, then a big loud voice
• Let two volunteers lead the chant on their own

Revision Activity 4: Under the Umbrella

Time: 5 minutes

• Open the umbrella and invite two learners at a time to stand under it
• They say "u / u / umbrella saves you from the weather"
• The class gallops like the unicorn while they wait for their turn

Revision Activity 5: Air, Sand and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "U" in the air together: down, round at the bottom, back up
• Let learners trace the big red "Uu" on page 23 with a finger
• Trace one dotted row of U and one of u on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that small u gets its little stick at the end

Revision Activity 6: Big U or Small u?

Time: 3 minutes

• Hold up letter cards one at a time: U, u, U, u
• Learners stretch up tall for big U and crouch down small for small u
• Say "umbrella" each time
