Revision Objectives

• Recognise big R and small r and say the sound /r/
• Recall the words rabbit, rat, rocket and rose
• Say the chant and the rhyme line "r / r / rose is the king of flowers"
• Trace big R and small r with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Rose Pass

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and pass a rose (or a rose picture) around
• When a learner holds it, they say "r / r / rose"
• Ask: "What colour is the rose?" and let the learner answer
• Keep going until everyone has had a turn

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 20 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: rabbit, rat, rocket, rose
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Chant Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Say the chant with a clap on each "r": "r / r / rabbit", "r / r / rat", "r / r / rocket"
• Learners repeat in a whisper, then a big loud voice
• Let two volunteers lead the chant on their own

Revision Activity 4: Rabbit Hop and Rocket Jump

Time: 5 minutes

• Call out "rabbit": learners hop
• Call out "rocket": learners crouch, count "3, 2, 1" and jump up
• Call out "rat": learners creep quietly
• Each time, learners say the word and the sound /r/

Revision Activity 5: Air, Sand and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "R" in the air together: down, back up, round to the middle, then a leg
• Let learners trace the big red "Rr" on page 20 with a finger
• Trace one dotted row of R and one of r on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that every learner makes the straight line first

Revision Activity 6: Big R or Small r?

Time: 3 minutes

• Hold up letter cards one at a time: R, r, R, r
• Learners stretch up tall for big R and crouch down small for small r
• Say /r/ each time
