Assessment Objectives

By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:

1. Point to the big "F" and the small "f" when asked
2. Say the sound /f/
3. Name the pictures on page 8: flag, flower, frog, fish
4. Say the chant "f / f / flag, f / f / flower, f / f / frog"
5. Repeat the rhyme line "f / f / fish loves diving and rolling"

All assessment for Playgroup is oral and observational. Learners are never asked to read or write words.

Formative Assessment

1. Letter Spotting (During Day 2)

• Task: Show three letter cards (F, f, E). Ask: "Where is big F? Where is small f?" The learner points to each
• Criteria:
  • Points to "F" and "f" without help, and does not pick "E"
• Rating: Yes / With help / Not yet

2. Sound Check (During Day 1)

• Task: Point to the big "Ff" on page 8 and ask: "What sound does it make?"
• Criteria: Says /f/ clearly
• Rating: Yes / With help / Not yet

3. Picture Naming (During Day 1)

• Task: Point to each picture and ask: "What is this?"
  1. flag
  2. flower
  3. frog
  4. fish
• Criteria: Names at least 3 out of 4 pictures
• Rating: 4 names / 2-3 names / 0-1 names

4. Chant Echo (During Day 1)

• Task: Say "f / f / flag, f / f / flower, f / f / frog". The learner repeats it
• Criteria: Says most of the chant
• Rating: Whole chant / Part of chant / Not yet

5. Air Tracing Observation (During Day 2)

• Task: Watch the learner draw "f" in the air and with a finger on page 8
• Criteria:
  • Starts with the hook at the top and goes straight down
  • Adds the short line across
• Rating: Neat / Trying well / Needs help

Summative Assessment

Oral and Practical Check (one learner at a time, about 3 minutes)

Part A: Letter and Sound (3 marks)

1. Point to big "F" on a card with three letters (1 mark)
2. Point to small "f" on a card with three letters (1 mark)
3. Say the sound of "f" (1 mark)

Part B: Picture Words (4 marks)

• Show the four pictures from page 8. Learner names each one (1 mark each):
  • flag, flower, frog, fish

Part C: Rhyme Line (1 mark)

• Learner repeats "f / f / fish loves diving and rolling" (1 mark)

Part D: Tracing (2 marks)

• Learner finger-traces the big "F" and the small "f" on page 8, starting at the top (1 mark each)

Total: 10 marks

Remediation Plan
