Revision Objectives

• Recognise the big "A" and the small "a" and say the sound /a/
• Recall the words ant, apple, axe and aeroplane
• Say the chant "a / a / ant, a / a / apple, a / a / axe"
• Repeat the rhyme line "a / a / aeroplane is above the tree"

Revision Activity 1: Apple Pass

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and pass a real apple around
• When a learner holds the apple, they say "a / a / apple"
• Ask: "What colour is it?" and let the learner answer
• Keep going until everyone has had a turn

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 3 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: ant, apple, axe, aeroplane
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Chant Clap

Time: 5 minutes

• Say the chant box from page 3, clapping on each "a":
  • a / a / ant
  • a / a / apple
  • a / a / axe
• Learners repeat in a big voice, then a tiny ant voice, then a whisper

Revision Activity 4: Aeroplane Rhyme

Time: 5 minutes

• Learners stretch out their arms like an aeroplane
• Fly round the circle saying "a / a / aeroplane is above the tree"
• Stop and point to the aeroplane above the tree on page 3

Revision Activity 5: Big A, Small a

Time: 5 minutes

• Hold up an "A" card and an "a" card
• Learners say "big A" or "small a" for each card
• Draw both in the air together: big A is two slanting lines and a line across; small a is round like a ball, back up, straight down

Revision Activity 6: Finger Tracing

Time: 5 minutes

• Learners run a finger over the big red "Aa" on page 3
• Trace a big "a" in a sand tray or on the board
• Check that every learner starts at the top
