Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to learn about action words.

Can you clap your hands? Clap, clap, clap! Clapping is an action. Action words tell us what we are doing. Say it with me. Action words tell us what we are doing. Very good!

Let us look at some pictures and find the action words.

Look at the little blue bird on the branch. It has its beak open and it is making music. The bird is singing. Singing is the action word! Can you sing like a bird? La, la, la!

Here are two boys. They are moving their legs very fast. Two boys are running. Running is the action word! Run on the spot with me. Run, run, run!

Look at this boy in the water. He is moving his arms and kicking his legs. He is swimming. Swimming is the action word! Swim with your arms. Splash, splash!

Here is a big grey elephant. The elephant ambles. Ambles means it walks slowly. Ambles is the action word! Walk slowly like an elephant. Stomp, stomp.

Look up in the sky. The sun is smiling and making everything bright. The sun is shining. Shining is the action word!

Here is a cat on a soft green pillow. Its eyes are closed. The cat is sleeping. Sleeping is the action word! Close your eyes and pretend to sleep. Shh!

Here is a jackal. It lifts its head up high and makes a long sound. The jackal howls. Howls is the action word! Can you howl? Ow-ooo!

And here is a girl sitting at a table with her plate. She is eating food. Eating is the action word! Pretend to eat. Yum, yum!

Let us say all our action words together. Singing. Running. Swimming. Ambles. Shining. Sleeping. Howls. Eating. Great job!

Now it is your turn. Look at each picture and tell me what the child is doing.

This boy is holding a book. He is reading!

This boy has headphones on his ears. He is listening!

This girl is making food in a pan. She is cooking!

And this boy is up in the air. He is jumping! Jump with me. Jump, jump, jump!

Let us remember what we learned today. Action words tell us what we are doing. Reading, listening, cooking and jumping are all action words.
