Video Script -- Lesson 32
Use of A and An
Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Leeds
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to learn about two little words. A and an!
Do you remember the vowels? Say them with me. a, e, i, o, u. Very good! All the other letters are consonants.
Here is a little rule. Listen carefully. We use a before consonant sounds, and we use an before vowel sounds. Say it with me. A before consonant sounds. An before vowel sounds. Wonderful!
Let us try it. Look at this white egg. Egg starts with e. E is a vowel! So we say an egg. An egg.
Here is a cricket bat. Bat starts with b. B is a consonant. So we say a bat. A bat.
Look up in the sky. Here is an aeroplane. Aeroplane starts with a vowel sound. So we say an aeroplane.
Here is a pretty doll. Doll starts with d. That is a consonant. So we say a doll.
Here is a birthday cake with a candle on top. Cake starts with c. A consonant! So we say a cake.
Yummy, here is an ice cream. Ice cream starts with i. I is a vowel. So we say an ice cream.
Here is a juicy orange. Orange starts with o. O is a vowel. So we say an orange.
And here is a candy. Candy starts with c. A consonant! So we say a candy.
Let us say them all together. An egg. A bat. An aeroplane. A doll. A cake. An ice cream. An orange. A candy. Great job!
Now it is your turn. Listen to the first sound and tell me, a or an?
Apple. Apple starts with a vowel sound. An apple!
Ball. Ball starts with b. A ball!
Eagle. Eagle starts with a vowel sound. An eagle!
Jug. Jug starts with j. A jug!
You are so clever!
Let us remember what we learned today. We use a before consonant sounds, like a bat and a doll. We use an before vowel sounds, like an egg and an orange.
You did a brilliant job today, little friends! See you next time! Bye-bye!
