Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to learn about consonant blends.

Sometimes two letters stand next to each other and hold hands. They blend together, but we can still hear each sound. That is called a consonant blend!

Listen. s and l. s, l, sl. Slide! Can you hear the s and the l? Sl, slide.

Now listen to this one. b and r. b, r, br. Brain! Br, brain. Your brain is in your head and helps you think.

Let us meet more blends. Say each one after me.

b and l make bl. Blanket. Block. Bl, bl, blanket, block.

c and l make cl. Clock. Clown. Tick tock goes the clock! Cl, clock, clown.

f and l make fl. Flag. Flower. Fl, flag, flower.

g and l make gl. Globe. Glove. Gl, globe, glove.

d and r make dr. Dress. Drum. Boom, boom goes the drum! Dr, dress, drum.

f and r make fr. Frog. Fruit. Ribbit, says the frog! Fr, frog, fruit.

g and r make gr. Grapes. Grass. Gr, grapes, grass.

p and r make pr. Paste. Prince. Pr, paste, prince.

t and r make tr. Tree. Truck. Tr, tree, truck.

s and k make sk. Skate. Sk, skate.

s and m make sm. Smell. Smoke. Sniff, sniff, can you smell? Sm, smell, smoke.

s and n make sn. Snail. Snow. The snail goes very, very slowly. Sn, snail, snow.

Wow, that is a lot of blends! You are doing so well.

Let us play a game. I say a word, and you tell me the blend. Ready? Frog. Fr! Clock. Cl! Tree. Tr! Snow. Sn! Glove. Gl! Brilliant!

Now look at the snail. Snail starts with sn. Sn, snail. And look at the red dress. Dress starts with dr. Dr, dress. Well done!

Let us remember what we learned today. A consonant blend is when two consonants are blended together, but we still hear each sound. Bl, cl, fl, gl, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr, sk, sm, sn.
