Video Script -- Lesson 29
Singular and Plural
Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Leeds
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to learn two big words. Singular and plural!
Hold up one finger. Just one. That is singular. Singular means only one.
Now hold up all your fingers. Lots of fingers! That is plural. Plural means more than one.
Say it with me. Singular means only one. Plural means more than one. Very good!
Look at the bird sitting on the branch. There is only one bird. One bird is singular.
Now let us look at some pictures. Here is a red apple. One apple. Now here are two apples. Apples! Can you hear the s at the end? Apple, apples.
Here is a boy running. One boy. And here are two boys running together. Boys! Boy, boys.
Here is a cat, sleeping on a pillow. One cat. And here are two cats. Cats! Cat, cats.
Here is a dog. One dog. And here are two dogs. Dogs! Dog, dogs.
Look up in the sky. Here is an eagle. One eagle. And here are two eagles. Eagles! Eagle, eagles.
Here is an orange flower. One flower. And here are two flowers. Flowers! Flower, flowers.
Here is a big lion. Roar! One lion. And here are two lions. Lions! Lion, lions.
And here is a nest in a tree. One nest. And here are two nests. Nests! Nest, nests.
Did you notice something? When there is more than one, we add a little s at the end. Apples, boys, cats, dogs, eagles, flowers, lions, nests. Clever you!
Let us play a game. I say a word. If it is only one, hold up one finger. If it is more than one, hold up all your fingers. Ready? Cat. One finger! Lions. All fingers! Flower. One finger! Eagles. All fingers! Well done!
Now look at the flowers. One flower is singular. Two flowers are plural. And look at the umbrellas. One umbrella is singular. Two umbrellas are plural.
Let us remember what we learned today. Singular means only one. Plural means more than one. To make more than one, we often add an s at the end.
You did a super job today, little friends! See you next time! Bye-bye!
