Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet three special letters. They are i, o and u!

Do you remember the vowels a and e? Well, i, o and u are vowels too. Let us listen to what they say.

Hi! I am i. I am a vowel. I produce two sounds, a short sound and a long sound.

The short sound of i is i, i, i. Say it with me. i, i, i. Very good!

Now let us make words. Listen carefully. f, i, g. Fig! l, i, p. Lip! w, i, n. Win! t, i, n. Tin! b, i, n. Bin! Can you hear the i in the middle? Fig, lip, win, tin, bin. Well done!

Here comes the next vowel. Hi! I am o. I am a vowel. I produce two sounds, a short sound and a long sound.

The short sound of o is o, o, o. Make your mouth round and say it with me. o, o, o.

Let us make words with o. b, o, b. Bob! f, o, g. Fog! h, o, t. Hot! r, o, d. Rod! c, o, p. Cop! Bob, fog, hot, rod, cop. Super!

And here is our last vowel. Hi! I am u. I am a vowel. I produce two sounds, a short sound and a long sound.

The short sound of u is u, u, u. Say it with me. u, u, u.

Let us make words with u. b, u, g. Bug! j, u, g. Jug! h, u, t. Hut! c, u, t. Cut! n, u, t. Nut! Bug, jug, hut, cut, nut. Great job!

Now let us listen to the long sounds. In a long sound, the vowel says its own name.

Listen to i. Short sounds are bid, lid, rid, dip, lip. Long sounds are hide, ride, tide, wide, line. Hear how i says its name in hide and ride?

Listen to o. Short sounds are bob, nod, cob, mob, fog. Long sounds are pole, hope, rope, bone, core. Stretch it out like a long rope. R-o-o-o-pe!

Listen to u. Short sounds are gum, sun, bug, cub, hug. Long sounds are tube, rube, fuse, rude.

Let us play a game. I say a word. If it is short, make yourself small. If it is long, stretch up tall! Lid. Small! Ride. Tall! Sun. Small! Hope. Tall! Hug. Give yourself a hug! Tube. Tall! You are so clever.

Let us remember what we learned today. i, o and u are vowels. Each vowel makes two sounds, a short sound and a long sound.

Short i is in fig. Short o is in hot. Short u is in bug.
