Assessment Objectives

By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:

1. Point to the capital "T" and the small "t" when asked
2. Say the sound /t/
3. Name the pictures on page 25: tree, tortoise, train, tomato
4. Name a vehicle that begins with "T"
5. Colour the picture that begins with "T" (tortoise, not apple)

All assessment for Nursery is oral and observational. Learners are not asked to read or write whole words.

Formative Assessment

1. Letter Spotting (During Day 1)

• Task: Show three letter cards (T, L, F). Ask: "Where is T?" The learner points to it
• Criteria: Points to "T" without help
• Rating: Yes / With help / Not yet

2. Sound Check (During Day 1)

• Task: Point to the big "Tt" on page 25 and ask: "What sound does it make?"
• Criteria: Says /t/ clearly
• Rating: Yes / With help / Not yet

3. Picture Naming (During Day 1)

• Task: Point to each picture and ask: "What is this?"
  1. tree
  2. tortoise
  3. train
  4. tomato
• Criteria: Names at least 3 out of 4 pictures
• Rating: 4 names / 2-3 names / 0-1 names

4. Do You Know (During Day 2)

• Task: Ask: "Which vehicle begins with 'T'?"
• Criteria: Says "train" (or another vehicle that begins with "T")
• Rating: Yes / With a clue / Not yet

5. Colour the T Picture (During Day 2)

• Task: Watch the learner do the activity at the bottom of page 25
• Criteria:
  • Says /t/ for the pink "T"
  • Colours the tortoise, not the apple
  • Colours mostly inside the lines
• Rating: Correct / Correct with help / Not yet

Summative Assessment

Oral and Practical Check (one learner at a time, about 3 minutes)

Part A: Letter and Sound (3 marks)

1. Point to capital "T" on a card with three letters (1 mark)
2. Point to small "t" on a card with three letters (1 mark)
3. Say the sound of "T" (1 mark)

Part B: Picture Words (4 marks)

• Show the four pictures from page 25. Learner names each one (1 mark each):
  • tree, tortoise, train, tomato

Part C: Do You Know (1 mark)

• Learner names a vehicle that begins with "T" (1 mark)

Part D: Find the T Picture (2 marks)

• Show the tortoise and the apple. Learner points to the one that begins with "T" (1 mark) and says its name (1 mark)

Total: 10 marks

Remediation Plan

• Learners who score below 5/10 should:
  • Play "Point to it" with the page 25 pictures for two minutes each day

  • Say "/t/ /t/ train, /t/ /t/ tomato" with a parent at home
