Vowels (a, e)
Subject: English | Class: Nursery | Series: Leeds
Hello, little friends! Welcome to our English lesson. Today we are going to meet two very special letters. They are called vowels!
Look, here is a yellow letter a. It has big eyes and it wants to talk to you. Listen. "Hi! I am a. I am a vowel. I produce two sounds, short sound and long sound." Wow! Letter a can make two sounds.
Today we will learn the short sound of a. It says a, a, a. Open your mouth and say it with me. a, a, a. Very good!
Now let us be robots. Robots say words very slowly. Listen. c, a, t. Now say it fast. Cat! c and a and t make cat. Meow!
Let us try more. b, a, g. Bag! f, a, n. Fan! h, a, t. Hat! c, a, n. Can! j, a, m. Jam! v, a, n. Van! Did you hear a, a, a in the middle of every word? Clever robots!
Now here comes another vowel. It is the letter e. It is an elephant letter! Listen. "Hi! I am e. I am a vowel. I produce two sounds, short sound and long sound."
The short sound of e says e, e, e. Say it with me. e, e, e. Well done!
Let us be robots again. m, e, n. Men! n, e, t. Net! w, e, t. Wet! w, e, b. Web! p, e, n. Pen! r, e, d. Red! h, e, n. Hen! Cluck, cluck! Did you hear e, e, e in the middle? You are super listeners!
Here is a little secret. Most words with three letters have a short vowel sound. Cat. Hat. Men. Pen. All short!
Now let us play a game called short or long. When a word is short, crouch down small. When a word is long, stretch up tall.
Mat. That is short. Crouch down! Cake. That is long. Stretch up tall! Cat, rat, bat. Short, short, short! Name, same, came. Long, long, long!
Now the e words. Leg. Short. Crouch down! Sea. Long. Stretch up tall! Red, hen, peg. Short, short, short! Pea, tea, free. Long, long, long!
Let us remember what we learned today. a and e are vowels. Each vowel has a short sound and a long sound. c, a, t makes cat. m, e, n makes men. And most three-letter words have a short sound.
You did a super job today, little friends! Keep being clever robots. See you next time! Bye-bye!
